Students protest for guns on campus

By Alletta Cooper

Some students say if they were legally allowed to carry concealed weapons, they could help protect the campus from events like the Virginia Tech shooting four years ago, when a student shot and killed more than 30 people.

But others say adding more guns to the mix is a bad idea.

Students across the country showed their support of guns on campus by wearing empty holsters earlier this month in what was called “The Empty Holster Protest.” About 20 students at East Carolina University joined the movement.

It didn’t take hold here at Carolina, but UNC senior Brandon Blalock has participated in years past.
