Gov. McCrory speaks at University Day

By Andrew Stern

October 12 is University Day at UNC. The campus is celebrating its founding 221 years ago and the achievements of the community.

Governor Pat McCrory will give the event’s keynote address, and while inviting a governor to speak at the annual celebration isn’t unusual, McCrory has had a contentious relationship with the University.

He is a well-known critic of North Carolina’s public higher education system, and hasn’t held back expressing doubts about the value of the social sciences and humanities.
